Bruno Fernandes' potential £90 million transfer to Real Madrid: 'Impossible' amid age concerns
Bruno Fernandes has recently been the subject of speculation linking him with a potential transfer from Manchester United to Real Madrid, but a £90 million ($116 million) move is widely regarded as "impossible" due to various financial and strategic considerations.

The Portuguese midfielder continues to play a pivotal role at Old Trafford, where he has taken on the responsibility of club captain. Despite his leadership, Manchester United’s ongoing struggles for consistency have prompted questions about Fernandes’ future at the club.
At 30 years old, Fernandes is at a crucial juncture in his career, with limited time to wait for another potential rebuild at United. Though he is contracted until 2027, reports suggest that he could be open to leaving should the right offer materialize. Real Madrid, who are reportedly exploring potential options to strengthen their squad, have emerged as one of the clubs interested in acquiring the playmaker.
The La Liga giants are said to be considering a move for Fernandes as they prepare for the potential departure of veteran midfielder Luka Modric. The Croatian international, who is now 39, is set to see his contract expire at the end of the season, leaving a significant void in Madrid’s midfield.
However, despite the need to replace Modric, it seems unlikely that Real Madrid would invest such a large sum in a player of Fernandes' age. In an interview with Cadena COPE, journalist Paco Gonzalez remarked on the situation: “There have been reports in England suggesting Real Madrid has made a £90 million offer for Fernandes. While he is a talented player, Madrid is unlikely to spend such a sum on a 30-year-old, particularly with Florentino Perez's approach to focusing on younger signings.” Gonzalez further explained that unless Fernandes were to become available on a free transfer, Madrid’s interest is improbable.
Given Fernandes' importance to Manchester United, any transfer would likely command a substantial fee. As such, the financial demands of a potential deal could deter the playmaker from seeking a move, particularly if United remains firm on its valuation. For now, it seems the possibility of Fernandes joining Real Madrid remains a distant prospect. SA
