UEFA investigates Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr, and others for alleged indecent conduct ahead of Arsenal clash
UEFA has initiated an investigation into Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr, Antonio Rudiger, and Dani Ceballos following their involvement in controversial incidents during Real Madrid’s dramatic penalty shootout victory over Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 on March 12, 2025.

The investigation was prompted by reports of alleged "indecent conduct" by the players, with key incidents under scrutiny. One of the most notable involves Antonio Rudiger, who was captured on camera making a throat-slitting gesture, apparently directed at Atletico Madrid fans. Meanwhile, social media footage appears to show Mbappe making a crotch-grabbing gesture during post-match celebrations.
As part of the disciplinary process, UEFA has appointed an Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector to investigate the conduct of these players. If the investigation concludes with a guilty verdict, the involved players could face severe consequences, including suspensions, fines, or both.
A statement from UEFA confirmed the investigation: "A UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector has been appointed to investigate allegations of indecent conduct by Real Madrid CF players (Antonio Rüdiger, Kylian Mbappé, Daniel Ceballos Fernández, and Vinicius Junior) during the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 match between Club Atlético de Madrid and Real Madrid CF on 12 March 2025."
The case raises concerns about the potential repercussions for Real Madrid’s upcoming Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal, with the first leg scheduled for April 8, 2025, at Emirates Stadium. Should any of the players face bans, it could disrupt their preparations for this highly anticipated clash.
This investigation follows previous high-profile cases of similar conduct. In 2024, England’s Jude Bellingham was fined €30,000 and handed a one-match suspended ban for a similar gesture. In 2019, Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone was fined €20,000 for an analogous incident during a Champions League match against Juventus.
Real Madrid will be closely monitoring the situation, as the potential disciplinary actions could have significant ramifications on their key players ahead of the Arsenal encounter. SA
